The Brisbane Pride Formal is the annual celebration where Queensland’s queer youth come dressed how they want, with who they love, surrounded by their LGBTIQA+ peers. It’s a free, safe, glittering night at Brisbane City Hall – and it’s been ours since 2017.
A Night to Be Yourself
The Purpose
A Safe Space for Every Student
Established in 2017, the Brisbane Pride Formal exists to give LGBTIQ students a safe space when, for any reason, they may have been prevented from attending – or chose not to attend – their own school formal. Every year we transform the Brisbane Room at Brisbane City Hall into the night they deserve.
Why It Matters
Discrimination Still Happens
Even with progressive policies in Queensland schools, too many students still face discrimination, fear, anxiety and exclusion when it comes to their school formal. Private religious schools in particular still actively prevent LGBTIQIA+ students from bringing same-sex partners and don’t always support gender-diverse students. Some students just aren’t ready to express themselves freely amongst their peers – and others simply want a safe space to meet and celebrate with their community.
What to Expect
Dinner, DJs, Drag, Dancing
Tickets include a two-course meal and a night of fabulous entertainment – performances by local entertainers and DJs, plus some of Brisbane’s best drag performers tearing the room up. Come for the dinner, stay for the dance floor, and leave with a memory of being celebrated exactly as you are.
100% Drug & Alcohol Free
No exceptions. Just a great night where every guest can feel safe, supported and absolutely fabulous.
Who Can Attend
Open to Every Student & Ally
Tickets are available to any school-age students in Queensland (up to 21 years old) and are open to LGBTIQIA+ students as well as their allies and friends. If you’re queer, questioning, or simply showing up for someone you love – you belong on our dance floor.
The Brisbane Pride Formal is proudly sponsored by the local LGBTIQIA+ community, Brisbane Pride Festival and Brisbane City Council. It is a 100% free event held every year in the Brisbane Room at Brisbane City Hall.
