Join us for the 65th Brisbane Pride Queens Ball - our most prestigious annual event honouring the outstanding achievements and contributions of LGBTQIA+ individuals, organisations, and allies.
A spectacular night of awards, entertainment, and celebration at the iconic Brisbane City Hall.
In 1962, Dame Sybil - the stage persona of schoolteacher Laurence Deane - co-founded the Queen's Birthday Ball with fellow performer Toye de Wilde. What began as a private gathering at a house on Mt Tamborine became the longest-running continuously held LGBTQIA+ celebration in the world.
During decades when being queer could cost you your livelihood, Dame Sybil created a space where Brisbane's LGBTQ+ community could gather, celebrate, and be seen. Self-described as "outrageous, but in a ladylike way," she was a trailblazer whose commitment to community transformed LGBTQIA+ life in Brisbane.
In 1990, Dame Sybil entrusted the event to Brisbane Pride to carry the tradition forward. This year's 65th Queens Ball honours her extraordinary legacy.
