A gay club operating almost openly in a basement near the Valley railway station. Queensland had no provision for nightclub licences, so like other venues of the period it operated as a restaurant: a small cover charge included a two-course meal, the main a choice of spaghetti bolognese or chicken and salad, and a dessert of canned peach on jelly that became famous as the petrified jelly. When the Siesta Bar closed of an evening, patrons paraded down Brunswick Street to the Dollar.
